An important characteristics of a connoisseur is their extended vocabulary. The difference between a person who likes wine and a person who knows about wine is the way they describe it.
Below you will find a basic list of wine terms so you can start talking with confidence about wine with real connoisseurs.
Acid: This term is important because it forms and molds the flavor of the wine. The acidity in wine act as preservative.
Aeration: is the process where oxygen is introduced in the wine. This is why we swirl wine in a glass before trying it.
Aftertaste: Exactly what it states.
Body: The body of the wine talks about the fullness of the wine. Three body types: light, medium and full bodied.
Crisp: A wine that is highly acidic with a touch of fruit and a clean finish.
Dry: Describes wine that have no taste of sugar.
Nose: The aroma of the wine.
Tannins: A substance that comes from grapes and creates the dry feeling inside your mouth. A natural preservative.
Vintage: Refers to the year that the grapes were grown & harvested.
